Food Storage Innovation Matters: For Consumer Health and Retail Profits
Creating a healthy meal is not only pleasing, but essential for consumers' health. Food sustains us, and fresh food can be expensive, so consumers want to savor it as long as they can. Innovation in food storage matters, but sometimes we're forced to throw out food that has spoiled due to poor storage methods. Brick-and-mortar retailers are being held accountable for helping the customers achieve their personal health and wellness goals-so storing fresh food is more important than ever. This panel discussion with grocery store executives will discuss how to maximize profits by understanding how the consumer shops by occasion and how new merchandizing strategies can lift food and non-food categories to yield fuller baskets. Retailers will learn how to differentiate themselves by providing what e-commerce cannot, with intuitive and complementary solutions to their fresh offerings.

Moving into a new home or remodeling an existing home is a key life moment for Millennials and empty-nesters who are downsizing, upsizing or remodeling in the next 8 years. This older generation buys at a higher rate than their Millennial children who are in a similar home-related moment. Learn how to address these needs across the generations.

Parenting in the Connected Home of the Future
Kevin Young, SVP of Product Experience at Continuum, an international design firm, will offer a vision for the future connected home. He'll present how Continuum's view of tech trends informed Fisher-Price's The Future of Parenting project, and will outline key products and services that help children learn and develop, to enable families to live easier, happier lives in a connected home. When thinking about the Internet of Things today (and in the future), it's important to consider what enhancements can be made to products that offer real value. He will offer a framework for envisioning these types of product experiences-a kind of a checks and balances approach to be sure you're designing products that will offer value to consumers and impact your bottom line. Beware the push to be "tech-first" when thinking about consumer needs. In fact, brands should be considering their consumers first to be sure they are creating products and services that will be meaningful to them. Otherwise, customers will be hesitant to buy connected products, because they may not deliver real value.

Love the One You're With - Boomers Spending Big
Recently, much of the marketing in the U.S. has focused on the large group of Millennials who are entering the work force and becoming a new economic force. In particular, as they move into marriage and family formation, they are important targets for the housewares industry. With the excitement surrounding this new generation, we find that many marketers have taken their eyes off the Boomers - who are still spending big. These Boomers are reinventing their lives, moving into new homes and actually starting new businesses at a higher rate than Millennials. And their new homes are more frequently about simplifying rather than downsizing their lives. They are entering the Third Act of life with big plans - and big spending. We will share our demographic, psychographic and anthropological research on how Boomers are changing the Third Act of life - with insights into how to rethink business and marketing

Communicating with Color/Design: Inspiring and Defining Essential Trends
In this digitally-directed, Instagrammed and Pinterested world, color and design trends can be communicated almost instantaneously to consumers or clients who are seeking original and more imaginative approaches to furnishings and to decorating their homes. For that reason, it is vital that designers, manufacturers, retailers, and anyone else involved in the production of consumer goods or interior environments, stay well ahead of the curve on the leading forecasts. The best solution for this challenge is employing the use of revitalized colors or, even more importantly, using hues in novel combinations, as they can instantly and effectively express a fresh approach that satisfies the need for newness. There are eight distinctively designed palettes, each with recommended color combinations that will help to inspire and inform you. At the very least, they will start a colorful conversation with customers and clients so that you can ultimately get your message across persuasively and confidently.

Why Your Customer Bought Your Competitor's Product
Michael will share a different approach to branding and product development - one based on targeting how our brain is really wired to make the decision to buy. The talk is composed of two stories. The first tells how our brains are designed to create feelings of trust and engagement. Using a series of small and easy-to-grasp examples Michael builds up to a larger picture of our core neurology and how it operates to make the unconscious decisions that drive our conscious mind. The second story builds on the first by illustrating the specific real-world brand strategies that are uniquely suited to "speak" directly to this core neurology and have the most impact on the buying decision.

Align Your Brand with the "Well-Luxe" Lifestyle
We are living longer, happier, healthier lives and we want to live them in luxury. We are just waiting to be told what will heal us next. The demand for health has doubled since 2011. Health is the one luxury everyone is splurging on now. Consumers are willing to pay more for brands that deliver quality, state-of-the-art technology and style. So how does your brand fit into the well-luxe spectrum? In this session learn: the importance of a healthy story, how to find a healthy angle for any product, how to make health an aspiration, identifying the right spokespeople and ambassadors AND the value of a research study and why not all studies are created equal (but sometimes you have to start somewhere).

Leatrice Eiseman, IHA's long-standing color consultant and executive director of the Pantone Color Institute will share her perspective on the major color families based on color word association studies that she continues to collect and analyze.
