IHA Gathering Comments For CPSC on Alternative Testing Requirements for Small Batch Manufacturers
ROSEMONT, IL (October 26, 2011)--The International Housewares Association is looking for comments from its members who would be affected by the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s alternative testing requirements for small batch manufacturers of children’s products. The CPSC held a public hearing on Oct. 26 regarding the alternative testing requirements, which could have
significant impact on IHA member companies that manufacture
children's products. The record remains open so manufacturers can still comment on the issue.
IHA will submit written comments on behalf of its members. No company or individual will be identified in IHA's response. All information will be kept confidential and reported only as industry averages and aggregates. Comments should be submitted via a questionnaire on IHA’s website by 5 p.m. EDT Wednesday, Nov. 2. The CPSC is seeking input and information from stakeholders (small batch manufacturers) on whether alternative testing methods are available and what such alternatives would involve. The Commission would also like to hear from stakeholders whether they would seek an exemption from third-party testing because alternatives are not available or, because of economic concerns, are not practical.
“This is an opportunity for IHA members to comment to the CPSC their perspectives relating to potentially cost-intensive or burdensome testing requirements that are placed on products,” said Phil Brandl, IHA president. “We encourage our members who would be affected to submit their comments, the Commission wants to hear from them.”
