Housewares Charity Foundation Raises $1.7 Million at 2008 Gala
ROSEMONT, ILL (March 27, 2008)—The Housewares Charity Foundation (HCF) announced today that it raised approximately $1.7 million at its 11th Annual Gala on Monday, March 17, during the 2008 International Home + Housewares Show. More than 700 people attended the gala, which also honored a veteran housewares supplier and two retail champions for their philanthropy and leadership in the housewares industry. Honored were Thierry de LaTour d'Artaise, chairman and CEO, Groupe SEB, with the HCF’s Lifetime Humanitarian Award; Renee Behnke, president emeritus, Sur La Table, as Humanitarian of the Year; and Burton Tansky, chairman and chief executive officer of The Neiman Marcus Group, Inc., who received the inaugural Design and Fashion Leadership Award.
The gala benefited The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), the HCF’s legacy charity, and America’s Second Harvest. Since the first Gala in 1998, HCF has contributed more than $6 million to The BCRF .
