When Manufactum was founded 20 years ago as a mail order company, nobody was talking about sustainable consumerism. Looking back, Manufactum´s concept to only sell long lasting, quality products turned out to be prophetic–the company was always against “throw away-ism.” One could say that Manufactum catered to Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability long before the LOHAS acronym was coined. Since 1999, the Manufactum department stores continue the company´s quest for authenticity and quality even to areas as shop fitting and lighting. The architectural substance of the historic building was cleverly integrated, creating a unique atmosphere. The product range covers all aspects of daily life–which even includes, with the “brot&butter” department, delicacies like freshly baked bread.
