Selfridges regards shopping as entertainment: consumers are stimulated and excited by what they see. The retailer is renowned for its theatrical settings – particularly its uniquely designed window displays, likened to mini art installations. Selfridges also hosts innovative events throughout the year, for example, Food Glamorous Food with its demonstrations, celebrities, book signings and food tastings.
Launched in 1909, Selfridges’ ground-breaking layout was the forerunner for department stores as we know them. The retailer even invented the “Sale” in the early 20th century and continues to break the retailing mold today.
